When you’re missing some, most, or all of your teeth, you have many options when it comes to restoring your smile. As a denturist in Orillia, I have helped countless people regain both their confidence as well as their ability to eat the healthy, nutritious foods that support excellent health … with dentures.
Dentures can restore your natural appearance and your ability to eat and speak. For many people – in consultation with me at West Ridge Family Dentistry in Orillia – dentures remain the treatment of choice.
Dentures are removable, custom-fitted replacement teeth that are crafted from strong, durable materials like acrylic resin which can be reinforced with porcelain or metal. There are two main types of dentures: complete and partial.
Complete dentures replace all of your teeth. You may require both an upper and lower prosthetic. They can be placed immediately after tooth extraction or after a lengthier healing period. There are advantages and disadvantages to both approaches, and we can review these together to find the best option for your unique smile.
Partial dentures correct only the gaps in your smile by anchoring removable dentures to your natural teeth with metal clasps or nearly invisible devices called precision attachments. By filling in gaps, partials can help to prevent further decay, gum disease, or the shifting of your remaining teeth.
As your denturist, I can also help you maintain your complete or partial dentures at regular dental visits. Yes, even if you have complete upper and lower dentures, you still need to come see us at West Ridge Family Dentistry. Over time, without your natural tooth roots to stimulate your bone, your jawbone will get smaller in width or depth. This can cause the slipping and clicking that many people associate with dentures. With regular relines, I can keep your dentures fitting properly until it’s time to have them replaced – usually in about 10 years. And if you break a denture – just give me a call! I can fix your dentures for you too – and have you smiling again in no time.
